The main objectives of the national and international dissemination and communication are to raise awareness of and promote RenoHUb, to publicize the project concept and the project results, and to enhance the visibility and showcase the achievements of the project among various national and international stakeholders. Therefore, maximizing opportunities to promote, communicate and disseminate research results throughout the lifetime of RenoHUb, and beyond, are essential and the main purpose of this document. This will ensure that key stakeholders can contribute to, and act on the findings. Exploitation comprises the creation of a Replication Plan, with the aim of ensuring the long-term sustainability of RenoHUb.

The RenoHUb project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, was launched in November 2019 and closed in May 2023. Within the cooperation of 5 Hungarian professional organisations, the project aimed to promote the qualitative and quantitative increase of energy renovations by applying the one-stop-shop method in Hungary, which has been successful abroad.

The final report describes the main results achieved by the project, the
brief history of the project, the challenges and opportunities. It details the elements of the online platform, the office network and the customer journey. It describes the researches carried out in the project, innovative financing opportunities, training programme for consultants and professionals, as well as pilot projects and feedbacks. They present good practices and vision about the future of RenoPont. The final report can be downloaded here.

The aim of the briefings was to provide financial institutions' staff with a deeper understanding of the technical content and financial risks of energy efficiency projects, as well as the opportunities for cooperation offered by RenoHUb's "one-stop shop" concept and approach. In order to achieve this objective, repeated "sensitisation" presentations and subsequent consultations were organised
The training activities were organised in cooperation with the Hungarian Banking Association, thus targeting several financial institutions at the same time, and one bank participated in the meetings on its own.

The conference was held at the MagNet Community House in the centre of Budapest, which hosts programmes, presentations and discussions focusing on community and social initiatives, sustainability and culture. All of this is offered in one of the most beautiful palaces on Andrassy Avenue, offering a varied, comfortable and technically equipped venue, of which we chose the most spacious room, as we were expecting a minimum of 120 people. The conference was hybrid, there was an online broadcasting of the conference for people who were following the conference online. Since there were foreign presenters and guests as well the conference was interpreted into Hungarian and English as well. The title of the conference was: After the soaring energy bills and before renovation grants – what next for residential energy efficiency?

The aim of this deliverable was to create a professional video, which provides a summary of the RenoHUb project at the end of the project. However, due to the new social media consumption trends, the consortium decided to create two videos (if there are reasonable price quotes for that). These are a longer, documentary-style video, where the project consortium partners are also speaking; and a shorter animation video with the most important information about the project and its results. In the case of RenoPont offices, effectiveness can be measured by the use of office services and, on the basis of the information received, by the openness to professional preparation and the implementation of the most optimal energy efficiency intervention.
For the selected pilot projects, clients have taken the decision to prepare their investments after receiving general information on energy efficiency and then to implement them depending on the results.
The buildings reflect the age of the domestic building stock and the typical construction technologies as well as the average living conditions of the occupants. These buildings have responded to changes in market conditions in a way that can serve as a model to inform future clients.

The objective of the task is to integrate the financial schemes/products for energy efficiency home renovation, which were identified in the framework of the RenoHUb programme prior to the development of the Report, and which are currently available on the international market and which are adaptable to the domestic market, into the domestic financial environment. The five schemes identified - the combined loan/subsidy scheme, the EIB ELENA programme, account-based financing, green mortgages and the University of Delft façade leasing concept - have been presented to the potentially relevant financial partners and the next steps, which are already for the maintenance period of the project, have been identified. The Report provides an account of these steps.

The RenoHUb consortium have drafted the final version of the finalised RenoHUb Business Model developed within the framework of the implementation of the RenoHUb project.

The finalised Business Model aims to ensure the sustainable operation of the RenoHUb project beyond its lifecycle. The project is to be closed mid May 2023, and the project partners are strongly committed to maintain and where relevant further develop the key achievements, in particular:
•    the RehoHUb and RenoPont brands;
•    the RenoHUb project webpage;
•    RenoPont online platform providing comprehensive information to homeowners intending to retrofit their energy inefficient homes; and
•    the network of the RenoHUb advisory service composed by the RenoPont offices.

The RenoHUb Business Model, like many similar European initiatives generally adopts the one-stop-shop approach, but is tailored in many respects to the specific features of the Hungarian residential energy efficiency market.

The aim of this task was to analyse the financial schemes/products currently available on the international market, which are relevant for the domestic adaptability of energy efficiency home renovation. The document describes financing schemes identified during the implementation of the RenoHUb project and potentially applicable in the domestic financial environment, including combined loan/subsidy schemes developed by the European Development and Reconstruction Bank and the European Development Bank, account-based financing based on energy suppliers and green mortgages. The ELENA programme of the European Development Bank and the facade leasing concept of the University of Delft are also discussed.

D6.1 Summary of discussions with financial institutions

The energy retrofitting of homes can be greatly accelerated by introducing targeted green finance products, thereby reducing existing financing barriers.

The first step towards this is to better understand the information needs, internal product design and decision-making processes of financial institutions involved in greening the residential sector in Hungary, and then to partner with and support them in developing simplified financial products tailored to renovation.

In-depth interviews to gain insight focused primarily on bank experts responsible for strategic planning, product development and risk analysis.
During the in-depth interviews and consultations, close cooperation was established with the Hungarian Banking Association, which effectively assisted the RenoHUb team in reaching out to financial institutions and provided a regular forum for presenting the project results and exchanging views.

An effective series of consultations was held with the relevant representatives of the MNB, the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and nearly 15 commercial banks.

D6.2 Information material for financial institutions

The aim of the briefings was to provide financial institutions' staff with a deeper understanding of the technical content and financial risks of energy efficiency projects and the opportunities for cooperation offered by RenoHUb's "one-stop shop" concept and approach. In order to achieve this objective, repeated "sensitisation" presentations and subsequent consultations were organised.

The training activities were organised in cooperation with the Hungarian Banking Association, thus addressing several financial institutions at the same time, and one bank participated in the meetings on its own.

The Report D6.2 Information material for financial institutions document describes these training activities (in English) and includes the material (in Hungarian) presented at them.

In addition to the launch of the online platform, RenoPont advisory offices and the online campaign, we also organised national roadshows. The roadshow events allowed local residents to meet and consult RenoPont advisors in person. We have held our own events in Budapest and in the countryside, and we have also joined other events in cooperation with municipalities. We were among the exhibitors at the 2022 Constuma Expo at Hungexpo. In addition, last September we organised a professional conference in the framework of EUSEW (European Sustainable Energy Week), where we presented the RenoHUb project.

After long preparations, a unique website started in Hungary to help energy efficiency renovations: the RenoHUb project’s RenoPont online platform (only in Hungarian). The aim of the online platform is to provide renovators with all the information they need to modernise their home in one place.

The RenoPont website gives the renovators an overview, basic information so that they are aware of the most important aspects of renovations and deep renovations, and helps them to go to the consultation prepared. It helps the renovators through the renovation process: guides them from financial options to specialist recommendations and operational advice. The online platform can be accessed via www.renopont.hu (only in Hungarian).

The aim of the Structural Brief is to transfer the know-how of the process and lessons learnt of the platform creation, in order to allow international replication. Since, together with Customer Relationship Management System, this is a very complex, custom development, it is important to be aware of the pitfalls, the complexity of certain work phases and the time required to design and implement an online platform supporting one-stop shops.

The aim of the RenoPont Partner Program is to create a network of qualified professionals offering the highest quality service in the field of energy efficiency which will provide people planning a renovation with a guarantee that their home is taken care of by reliable and highly qualified professionals. The presentations of this training became the training material for RenoHUb installers.

On 01.06.2022, the RenoPont Partner Program introduction day was held, where the participants could learn about RenoPont's services and the benefits of the Partner Program. We also provided them with interesting and useful presentations to help them expand their skills and learn about new technologies. Our speakers included Daikin Hungary, Weishaupt, Baumit and Knauf Insulation.

As part of the training material for hotspot operators, a manual for operating hotspots was be made by the partners. The manual gives practical guidance on how to set up and maintain a RenoHUb hotspot.

The Manual introduces operators to the two basic pillars of RenoPont: the complex, user-friendly RenoPont Online Platform and the RenoPont office network with a unified image (so-called advisory offices). They can also get know the concept and services of the one-stop-shop (OSS) system as well as all of the relevant available information about the potential customers, i.e. the renovators (Who are the target groups? What are the motivations and fears of renovators?).

One of the most important purposes of the Manual is to introduce the Customer Path. The operator should learn about the entire service process and its steps. The services of both the Online Platform and the RenoPont offices are detailed in the Manual. Through the services, the operators could learn about what a good consultant is like, what their responsibilities are and what communication guidelines are recommended.

This guide is intended to help homeowners to implement professional and complex energy renovations.

The primary aim of this guide is to support homeowners:

  • understanding the materials and equipment needed to make energy efficiency investments (insulation, windows, heating systems)
  • choosing the materials and equipment for home renovation by comparing the technical parameters and efficiency of similar product types.

In fact, given the wide range of building materials and equipment and the specificities of each building, guidelines have been drawn up and a context established which the renovator can use in a practical way and which will help him to think through possible solutions in conjunction with the contractor.

In fact, we have tried to provide guidelines and a context that the renovator can use practically and help him or her to be able to implement the possible construction solutions in cooperation with the contractor, on the same wavelength and with the same understanding, of course with the necessary building materials.

D4.1 Online communication strategy

The channels, messages and content of the online campaign were designed in an online communication & marketing strategy. The strategy was developed and implemented in cooperation with an external marketing expert team, and support the success of RenoPont's one-stop-shop business model and the promotion of its services. The main feature and uniqueness of the RenoPont service is that we help through a one-stop-shop renovation consulting network those, who are interested in home renovation or are future renovators.

In our communication plan we highlighted campaign proposals, identified content production, search engine optimisation guidelines and specific tasks concerning the use of the image. The online and offline channels – which we would like to use - have been considered in terms of what purposes they need to serve, and how should be created and managed them effectively.

The details about the online communication strategy are elaborated in the confidental Deliverable D4.1: „Online communication strategy”.

D4.2 Training Material for RenoHUb hotspot operators

The staff of the hotspot offices received targeted training which prepares them for providing the appropriate responses to the users’ inquiries. More specifically this means to be able:

  • to translate the user’s need into practical implementation steps;
  • to provide guidance concerning the further activities required, paper/documents to use, whom to turn to with specific technical questions, available financing products, etc.
  • to train future operators of newly established Hotspots in the country.

The operators acquired all the necessary knowledge in the training in order to support their clients as effectivel as possible. The details about the 40-hour in-house training course, the six modules and the exam are elaborated in the confidental Deliverable D4.2: „Training Material for RenoHUb hotspot operators”.

This deliverable provides the summary of the Task 2.5 Assessment of the impact of energy efficiency refurbishment on the real estate value. The task aimed to conduct a comprehensive countrywide market analysis how the costs of energy refurbishment incorporates into the market price of the renovated homes.

The purpose of this analysis was twofold: on the one hand, we wanted to quantify the relationship between energy renovations and property value through a comprehensive science-based study. On the other hand, by complementing the results of the D2.1 study (understanding the drivers/triggers and obstacles for homeowners to renovate their buildings), we aimed to produce a novel result that was relevant and useful from a communication point of view. We hypothesised that we were about to uncover a correlation that could be an important argument for price-sensitive Hungarian homeowners, encouraging them to invest their money in energy renovation.

The RenoHUb Business Modell aims to create the organizational framework of RenoHUb integrated home renovation services.  The Model like many similar European initiatives generally adopts the one-stop-shop approach, but is tailored in many respects to the specific features of the Hungarian residential energy efficiency market.

The ultimate goal of the Business Model is to create a financially viable institutional framework in order to ensure its long-term sustainability the Online Platform and the constant growth of the RenoPont office network.

RenoHUb is based on two pillars:  an online platform and a network of information points (RenoPont offices), thereby to enable both digital and traditional interpersonal communication.

More than 30 sample documents were prepared to be at hand for the users of the RenoPont Energy Home Renovation Centre, established by the RenoHUb project. These standardized documents will ease all documentation and contracting procedures during the renovation process. The toolkit of these are contract samples, calls for tenders, furthermore, handful documents especially for multi-apartment buildings such as template of minutes of the condominium’s assembly. Besides, process descriptions, information handouts and a conflict management guide will be available to be used by the potential renovators and common condominium representatives.

An important element of the Online Platform will be the calculator which supports the homeowners to estimate indicative values on the expected renovation costs, energy savings and emission reductions of their planned renovation.
Although this preliminary calculation will not substitute the technical survey by an expert, we would like to help the visitors with the most reliable values possible.
The research of Work Package 2.3 is intended to serve as a basis for the operation of the online calculator. Our innovation is that the calculator not only calculates on the basis of the data entered by the user, but after identifying the building type, it replaces the missing values with the characteristic values of the given building category. There is an opportunity to do this as Hungarian buildings are usually built with typical, age-specific technical parameters, so we can generally rely on them.
The document presenting the research first demonstrates the Hungarian building typology, namely the types and characteristics of Hungarian residential buildings, as well as the limitations of their use. It reviews what kind of energy renovations we can talk about, what the online calculator can examine, then it describes in detail the possible design of online calculators, gives suggestions for displaying building types and renovations, technical content and achieving the most realistic results possible.

Our study is based on desk research conducted in the first half of 2020, as well as interviews and meetings with domestic commercial banks and financial institutions.
In the first part of our report, we analyzed the Green Program of the Hungarian National Bank and the Green Preferential Capital Requirement Program. We also examined the financial products that are available for energy efficiency renovations on the market, and identified problems in the practice of banks and lessons to be learned for the RenoHUb project.

The most important basic condition for the energy renovation of condominiums or family households is that the the community living in the building has adequate information about the energy renovation process when preparing for the development. Given that the aim of our project is to support residential energy developments, therefore, as one of the first steps of our work, we prepared a detailed process description itinary that describes the technical and administrative details of energy developments in both condominium and single-family environments. In the further phase of our work, we will supplement the process description with a uniformly usable document toolkit, so that the persons involved in the implementation of the investments can receive additional technical support.

In order to make the RenoHUb model as effective as possible in helping energy-efficient renovations of residential buildings, our first research focused on getting know the key player in the entire renovation process: the homeowners renovating their homes. Through a 3-day online blog and four focus group interviews, we got a complete picture of why someone wants to renovate (motivations), why people start a renovation (drivers), what their fears and concerns are, whether those will be proven later, and what kind of support homeowners would need throughout the renovation process - in fact, what they would expect from RenoHUb’s service. As the whole process includes other very important cooperating partners as well, we conducted more than ten in-depth interviews with installers coordinating renovation processes on a daily basis, manufacturers of energy efficient products, common condominium representatives and municipalities as future potential partners. We received essential additional information from each interviewee on how to fine-tune our model.

The main objectives of the national and international dissemination and communication are to raise awareness of and promote RenoHUb, to publicize the project concept and the project results, and to enhance the visibility and showcase the achievements of the project among various national and international stakeholders. Therefore, maximizing opportunities to promote, communicate and disseminate research results throughout the lifetime of RenoHUb, and beyond, are essential and the main purpose of this document. This will ensure that key stakeholders can contribute to, and act on the findings. Exploitation comprises the creation of a Replication Plan, with the aim of ensuring the long-term sustainability of RenoHUb.
